Are you still unsure about what to find at the SIRA centre? Here are some frequently asked questions from our users.
Frequently asked questions
What kind of psychological care does the Sira Centre offer?
We offer specialised therapeutic care for people who have suffered torture, ill-treatment, institutional, migratory or structural violence. Our approach is psychosocial, gendered, cross-cultural and human rights-based.
How do I access care if I have experienced police or institutional violence?
You can contact us via the web form or write to us directly. Our team will assess your situation and offer you support tailored to your needs.
What is a medical-psychological expertise according to the Istanbul Protocol?
It is a specialised report that documents possible sequelae of torture or ill-treatment from a clinical and legal perspective, used in judicial and asylum proceedings. At Centro Sira we carry out expert reports according to these standards.
Can I access counselling if I am an asylum seeker or an undocumented migrant?
Yes, we do not discriminate on the basis of administrative status. Our care is especially designed for people in situations of vulnerability or exclusion.
What training courses does the Sira Centre offer for professionals?
We offer online and face-to-face courses on trauma, institutional violence, psychosocial accompaniment, the Istanbul Protocol and other related topics. Many of them can be subsidised through FUNDAE.
Can I receive care in a language other than Spanish?
Yes, we offer services in Spanish, Catalan, English and French, and we work with interpreters for other languages if necessary.
Does Centro Sira only work in Madrid or does it work virtually?
Although we are based in Madrid, we offer online services to people from all over Spain and in some cases internationally.
What therapeutic approach do you use to treat trauma?
We combine clinical therapy, psychosocial intervention, somatic care and community resources, with cultural sensitivity and a critical look at the structural causes of suffering.
Can I refer a person from my organisation or NGO?
Yes, we collaborate with social entities, public services and human rights organisations. Write to us to jointly assess the referral.
What differentiates the Sira Centre from other mental health services?
Our work is focused on contexts of institutional violence and human rights. We work from a holistic perspective, sensitive to trauma and committed to individual and collective reparation.
